Bride

Written by: Anne Driscoll

Planning a wedding is fun, exciting and (let’s face it) just plain exhausting at times. Add to that a full-time job and even the most serene bride may find herself becoming a tad unnerved. So, how do you go about planning your dream event, stay focused at work and find a little time every once in a while to spend with your fiancé?

With a bit of planning (I know, I know…there’s that word again!) any bride-to-be can enjoy a relatively stress-free engagement period.

  • Set a realistic time-line. Do you have a year to plan or 3 months? When you figure out exactly how long you have to deal with, use a planning magazine or visit an on-line site and arrange accordingly. If your event is coming soon, focus on the most important elements and hire professionals to help you.
  • Make the most of a lunch hour. Most people are surprised how much they can accomplished during the short span of a lunch hour. Pack a lunch (saves time & money) and start crossing off items on that to-do list!
  • Keep the wedding updates to a minimum. While most co-workers are super excited for your “big day”, there is a fine line of how much you need to share. Keep it professional and share only the big finds. Big thing =Finding the wedding dress of your dreams. Not so much = finding the perfect font size to use on your invitations.
  • Hoard those vacation days. You’re tired. I get it. But you’ll be glad you powered through when you have vacation days available to use before the ceremony, for your honeymoon and a couple of days after that. Trust me on this one. You’re going to want to nest & play with your new silverware.
  • Don’t miss out on fitting appointments. You’ve found the Perfect Dress, now make sure it looks perfect on you. You will want to be able to walk and sit comfortably in your dress without tripping, stepping on it or constantly pulling at it. Don’t forget to bring the proper under garments to each fitting.
  • Take time to take care of yourself! With work, planning, parties and life all happening at the same time, it can be easy to put yourself on the back-burner. Take a moment to go for a walk or jog with a friend or take a yoga class weekly to stay centered. You’ll feel calmer and happier, while keeping stress at bay.
